Located in Churchhaven, in the West Coast National Park on the edge of the Langebaan Lagoon, Samphire Cottage is an off-the-grid cottage establishment that offers a picturesque retreat for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. Just a few steps away from a pristine white sandy beach and rich salt marsh wetland, this cottage is the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature.
Start your day with biking, hiking, or numerous water sport activities, including swimming, sailing, and kayaking. Enjoy long lazy lunches on the front verandah, with uninterrupted views of the glistening blue lagoon. Add in a game of boules and finish with a sunset stroll along the wetland. The evenings come alive with prolific stargazing, outside braais, and crackling inside fires.
The cottage itself is a well-loved family home, rented through word-of-mouth and personal referrals. It is modeled in traditional West Coast architecture, with simple and comfortable styling. The open plan living room and kitchen open onto a verandah and courtyard, which leads to the 3 bedrooms. The cottage can accommodate 6 adults and 2 kids, with various sleeping arrangements available.
Sleeping arrangements:
- One main bedroom (queen size bed) with en-suite bathroom
- A second bedroom (queen size bed)
- A third bedroom (queen size bed) with 2 bunk beds for kids
- One main bathroom
In terms of amenities, the cottage offers an open plan living room with an indoor fireplace, a TV upon request, and a kitchen equipped with an electric fridge and gas oven. There is a front verandah with an outdoor table that seats 8 people, as well as a central courtyard with a table, loungers, an outside built-in braai, and an outside shower. While there is limited Wi-Fi available, the cottage encourages guests to disconnect and immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
During your stay, linen, bath towels, and beach towels are provided, along with firewood and cleaning equipment. However, due to the solar system, it is advised not to use appliances with heating elements. Pets are also not allowed, in accordance with the West Coast National Park rules.
Samphire Cottage offers different rates depending on the season. In low season, the rate is R5,000 per night plus a R1,850 cleaning fee. In high season (15 December to 15 January and Easter), the rate is R8,500 per night plus a R1,850 cleaning fee. Minimum stay requirements apply for different seasons and booking periods. A 50% deposit is required for booking confirmation, and cancellation policies vary based on the timing of the cancellation.
